On Latin
At Heritage Classical Academy, Latin instruction begins in Kindergarten. Often, it is the subject that attracts the most questions. Thus, it is important to provide not only a defense of Latin as an integral part of our curriculum, but also to provide insight into the way Latin is taught in the earliest grades at our school.

The Value
Of Latin
There are many practical benefits of learning Latin. Latin expands students' vocabulary base, especially when it comes to multi-syllabic words. Latin also provides a firm foundation upon which to study a modern foreign language in middle or high school. Latin, like any language, is a framework for internalizing, representing, and ordering the world. For our students, it provides a beautiful, orderly, and compelling framework to shape their thoughts and improve their learning.

Latin Comes Alive
In the early grades, Latin is taught in a living, natural approach. Children hear, say, and act words and phrases, over time learning various songs and stories in Latin. Our approach teaches children to truly love Latin, such that, as they enter upper elementary and encounter conjugations, declensions, and complex grammar, they do so with conviction, joy, and confidence.
