Art
ON Art
At Heritage Classical Academy, students encounter art instruction every other day to, “learn to love what is beautiful to the eye.” To study art is not first to cultivate skill, but rather to cultivate knowledge of and appreciation for skill, especially as observed in the best examples of it.
Put simply, the purpose of art class is the apprehension of beauty, specifically as it is found in great works of art. We want our students to see things that are beautiful, to understand them (at least in part), and to be appropriately moved by them.

The Pursuit of Beauty
Students will build the capacity to recognize, understand, and appreciate beauty through the study of great works, they will live fuller lives, appreciating the small moments of beauty each day affords, and marveling in the imaginative genius of the most wonderful examples of art, architecture, and landscape from our human history.

Beauty will save the world.
- Fyodor Dostoevsky
